Birdstrike in a Lancair

 May 26, 2012

"Brief video showing a birdstrike we suffered recently when we hit a pair of Canada geese shortly after lift-off from Harvey Young airport Tulsa OK. The birds were invisible to us as we started the take off roll, only becoming apparent as we crested the rise in the runway, at that point we had no option but to continue and hope they didn't hit anything vital. 21 seconds into the video you can see a single goose lift off on the right side of the runway, he escaped, sadly his two pals didn't as we hit them shortly afterwards. After the impact, we carried out an abbreviated circuit and got down again as soon as we could to check for damage. The birds hit the port wing just outboard of the landing gear and other than a fairly messy clean up did no damage."
