Pilot escapes Kent glider crash near Challock airfield

A pilot had to parachute to safety from his glider after he got into difficulties near a Kent airfield.

The man bailed out of the aircraft before it crashed in woods near Squids Gate Lane, Challock, at about 11.50 GMT on Saturday.

It is believed the pilot was a member of the Kent Gliding Club, which is based at Challock airfield.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service sent two fire crews to the scene but the man was not injured during the incident.
