THe sky’s the limit for a former RAF pilot who has been appointed leader of an aerobatic display team.

Mark Cutmore, who is known as Cutty, is taking over as leader of The Blades, a display team based in Sywell, Northamptonshire which is made up of former Red Arrows pilots.

Mr Cutmore, who lives in Stamford with his wife Emma and their two daughters, will fly in Blade 1 in the lead pilot position. He is taking over from teammate Myles Garland, who will now fly in the Blade 3 position.

Mr Cutmore spent 13 years flying fast jets in the RAF including the Jaguar and the Hawk.

He represented the RAF as the Jaguar Display Pilot before joining the Red Arrows in 1999 flying as Red 3, 5 and 9.

He joined The Blades in 2008 as Blade 3, on the left hand side of the formation and then spent three years as Blade 4, the solo display pilot position, before taking on his current role.

He said: “I am really excited about leading the team for the first time in 2012. We have got a busier than usual winter training programme to allow plenty of time for us all to get used to our new positions within the display and become accustomed to the changes to the team.

“The closer it gets to the summer, the more we are looking forward to the start of the new season and doing what we love best, performing in front of our fans.”
