Denver International Airport gets a new 'Spirit'

DENVER - Another discount airline will be flying in and out of Denver International Airport soon, and this one's got spirit. On Thursday, Spirit Airlines announced it will start offering daily nonstop flights from Denver to Dallas/Ft. Worth, Las Vegas, Chicago and Fort Lauderdale.

The flights start on May 3.

From those four cities, Spirit - which bills itself as "the ultra low-cost carrier" - has connections to 29 other cities, including international destinations in Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean.

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock praised the news.

"Spirit's decision to initiate service to Denver is great news for the city and the region," he said in a statement. "New air service generates increased economic activity which translates into jobs for the people of Denver."

Spirit will run its flights out of Concourse A.
