Aviation officials say Chicago's airports are gearing up for rough winter weather

CHICAGO — Officials for both of Chicago's airports say they're ready for severe winter weather.

The Chicago Department of Aviation says more than 500 people are assigned to snow removal operations at both O'Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport.

Gary Schenkel is the executive director of the aviation department. He says the airports are able to perform well in severe weather.

Officials touted how the airports handled a massive storm last February and were fully operational a day after the storm. Officials say employees undergo training for tough weather situations.
