Silkair: Passengers were evacuated on taxiway, not in middle of runway

Passengers on board Silkair flight MI955 yesterday (Nov 24) were evacuated not in the middle of the runway. Rather, the evacuation took place on the taxiway where aircraft can neither take off nor land.

The passengers of MI955 were evacuated after smoke was seen coming from the tires of the plane bound for Xiamen.

A spokesperson for Silkair wrote:

“SilkAir flight MI922 had a ramp turn back due to a technical defect.

“Passengers were off-loaded on the taxi-way/ramp area as the aircraft had to be moved to a bay for further checks.

The flight was rescheduled to 1200hrs (Singapore time), with a different aircraft operating this flight.

“Passengers were provided with $20 vouchers to purchase meals at the Terminal 2 Transit Cafe.

“SilkAir sincerely apologies for the inconvenience caused."
