Permit issued for Stennis International Airport (KHSA) terminal, hangar project. Work on $6.1 million deal expected to last a year. Bay St Louis, Mississippi.

HANCOCK COUNTY -- A building permit has been issued for a $6.1 million terminal and hangar at Stennis International Airport.  GM&R Construction Co. of Bay St. Louis was the successful bidder for the project.  “They have moved a construction trailer out to the site,” said Jack Zink, executive director of the Hancock County Development Commission.  He expects work to start any day on the 10,000-square foot terminal and 24,000-square foot hangar to replace the hangar destroyed during Hurricane Katrina.

Construction will take about a year.  The modern, two-story terminal was designed by JBHM Architects in Biloxi. It will have a restaurant and an aviation history theme.  He said the new terminal won’t put Stennis in competition with Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.  “At this time we are not looking at any passenger service,” said Zinc. The airport Fixed Base Operator supports business and executive jets. Stennis also gets military training flights and very large transports to support Rolls-Royce and other industry at Stennis.
