Airport restaurant closes

— It was a good news/bad news kind of week for Johnstown airport leaders.

A state report showing the local facility supports more jobs than eight of the state’s 15 airports with commercial service came out at almost the same time as a business move threatening some of those jobs.

The beleaguered airport restaurant has closed, at least temporarily, due to financial issues, an owner confirmed Friday.

“I want to reopen, but I don’t know if it’s going to be possible or not,” said Courtney Audi, co-owner of Audi’s Olde World Restaurant and Lounge in the airport.

Airport authority Chairman Rich Weaver said officials were disappointed to hear of the closing.

They expect to know early this week whether Audi’s will remain in business.

Audi’s opened in the fall of 2010. Owners Bill and Courtney Audi formerly owned Franco’s Family Restaurant and Pizzeria in Moxham.

Success has been elusive for airport restaurateurs in Johnstown. Audi’s represented the fifth attempt since the new terminal opened in 1999. Its predecessor, Sassy’s at the Airport, had the longest tenure, with four years and one month in business.
