SpiceJet ordered to cough up R 55,000

Mumbai: The summer of 2006 was a string of unpleasant memories for the Patoria family, thanks to SpiceJet.

The Patorias have now managed to receive compensation from the airline for hell breaking loose on their trip to 'heaven on earth, Kashmir, for a summer vacation in May 2006. The Mumbai District Suburban Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has ordered the airlines to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000, apart from Rs 5,000 as cost of complaint, for not giving timely information regarding the change in flight schedule, due to which the family's entire travel plan fell apart.

The Forum expressed dissatisfaction with the airlines' reply which stated that they had re-scheduled the flight but could not inform the Patorias since they did not have the family's phone number and thus informed the travel and tour agency. The Forum observed that the airlines could have asked the agency for the number or e-mail address of the Patorias, but no such effort was made.
