Coming soon: discounted airfares to St Maarten

St. John’s Antigua- Pre Christmas shoppers will be pleased with the announcement that a travel and shopping incentive package between LIAT and the government of St Maarten will be unveiled soon.

Representatives of both sides have agreed to a plan of action to promote St Maarten, already known for its duty-free shopping, as a major eastern Caribbean shopping destination.

“Both sides agreed on development of a travel and shopping incentive package that would be aimed at lowering the cost of shopping in St Maarten for regional travellers including reduced air fares and discounted shopping in St Maarten, as well as options for discounts in other areas such as car rentals, hotel accommodation and restaurants,” a release from the airline stated.

LIAT’s Chief Executive Officer, Brian Challenger, explained that this is one of the results of the recently held Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) State of the Industry Conference in St Maarten, which identified the need for promoting inter-regional travel and the importance of forging strategic partnerships.

Meantime, ministers of transport are due to meet this month to continue talks on connectivity and integration in air travel across the Caribbean.
