Council will consider adopting a Business Plan for the New Braunfels Municipal Airport (KBAZ), New Braunfels, Texas

"Commissioners and City Council Each to Hold Meetings Today, Monday, September 12th, 2011"

(New Braunfels, TX) -- The Burn Ban in Comal County is back in place, after expiring at the end of August. According to Comal County Fire Marshall Wayne Ellington, the burn ban actually expired back on Aug. 25th, and while residents and visitors have been mostly careful with fire, in light of recent events in Bastrop, Travis, and Bexar Counties, he thought it would be best to get a new order issued as quickly as possible. So Commissioners Court held an emergency meeting at the end of last week and approved another 90 day burn ban.

Meanwhile, here inside the city limits of New Braunfels, outdoor burning is banned year-round, except for outdoor BBQ’s and grills. But because of the fire danger this summer, the city’s earlier ban on those grills and BBQ’s in local parks remains in place.

One other quick note about Comal County Commissioner’s Court: They meet again, for another special meeting, this morning. At 8:15am, they’ll meet to discuss and approve the new tax rate for 2012. That’s in the Commissioners Courtroom on the Main Plaza in downtown New Braunfels.

Meanwhile, New Braunfels City Council meets tonight for their next regularly scheduled meeting. On the agenda tonight:

* An update on current projects underway in city parks.
* The renewal of contracts totaling 225-thousand dollars with 5 local engineering firms, who can respond on short notice, to deal with small street and drainage projects on city roads.
* Also, the renewal of a 135-thousand dollar contract with Osirus Inc. for litter pick-up services in city parks. That includes Landa Park, Prince Solms, Hinman Island, and River Acres Park.
* The Parks and Recreation Board wants to change the scope of their committee’s responsibilities and duties, voting unanimously to have language removed from the ordinance that created their committee any reference to the Comal and Guadalupe Rivers. The board says the Watershed Program Manager is in charge of those tasks, and that job is now in the Public Works Department, not the Parks Department, so they would like to see that language removed.
* Council will also consider adopting a Business Plan for the New Braunfels Airport.
* They’ll look at annexing 99 acres of land off Engel Road and Schmucks Road into the city limits.
* And during tonight’s executive session, Council could possibly vote to hire the next City Attorney, replacing Paul Isham, who has served as the interim City Attorney since this Spring, when Alan Weyland resigned from that post.
* Tonight’s City Council meeting starts at 6pm in Council Chambers at City Hall.

We’ll have a lot more about tonight’s meeting, and other city issues, today at 12:30 during the Monday’s with the Mayor show, with New Braunfels Mayor Gale Pospisil. That’s at 12:30 today here on AM 1420 and streaming live online here at kgnb.am.
