Airbus A319: Russian plane makes emergency landing due to fueling system malfunction

MOSCOW, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- An Airbus A319 carrying 71 people made an emergency landing in Russia's Pulkovo airport in St. Petersburg on Wednesday, the city's transport authorities said.

The plane, heading to Rostov-on-Don in southern Russia, returned to the airport shortly after take-off, as the crew detected unstable work of the aircraft's fueling system.

Nobody was hurt in the landing and all passengers have been transported to their destination by another plane operated by the same Rossiya airline.

After the recent crash of a Yak-42 plane in Russia that killed 44 people, the Russian government has tightened safety measures in air transportation.

Both President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin have demanded airlines put passengers’ safety prior to all other considerations.
