Sales of Georgia-made Gulfstream jets soaring

Orders at Savannah-Georgia-based Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation are the strongest the company has seen since the economic downturn began, with international orders representing the bulk of sales, company officials said this week, reports the Savannah Morning News.

International orders represent 70 percent of Gulfstream's current orders, with 50 percent coming from the Asia-Pacific market, the newspaper reported.

When sales are compared to the first half of 2010, the number of sales has more than doubled, General Dynamics Chairman Jay Johnson told analysts this week. Gulfstream Aerospace is a division of General Dynamics .

Gulfstream expects to deliver 80 large-cabin aircraft and 15 mid-cabin planes this year, Johnson said, the Savannah Morning News reported. The company’s large-cabin models — the G350, G450, G500, G550 and G650 — are made in Savannah.
