A single-engine plane came down south of Dallas Executive Airport Thursday afternoon.

The plane came down in a treed area near Pastor Bailey Drive and Red Bird Lane, about a half-mile south of the airport, at about 2:37 p.m.

It's not immediately clear what caused the crash.

Dallas Fire-Rescue says the pilot was the only person onboard and is conscious and alert. DFR said the pilot is being taken to the hospital though they didn't elaborate any further on the pilot's condition.

The plane's fuel bladder was intact, DFR said, and there were no other structures damaged.

  1. wow, great flying it to the end; appears PIC really struggled finding a small patch of green in a sea of urban sprawl.

  2. Agree 100% with the comment above about finding a spot to land in a sea of urban sprawl. Imagine this same engine failure going out of KADS.......

  3. It appears that he landed in the northwest corner of Boulder Park, a mountain biking park where President Bush and others (including me) have sometimes biked. He came down about 2000 feet from the nearest runway at KRBD. It appears that he just could not "stretch his glide" to the runway, so he tried to land on the only clear spot among the trees, which was a mountain bike path. I own an aircraft at KRBD; the problem we have in the immediate vicinity on 3 sides of the airport is dense trees, not urban sprawl. I've often wondered what to do if I experienced engine failure immediately after takeoff without enough room to turn back, and I have programmed myself to aim for a road (we have many very wide roads in the immediate area) rather than risk the trees. But, he is alive and conscious, so it's all good.

  4. He did a good job flying the airplane, but you will notice there is no evidence of fire....
