On June 16, 2022, about 1400 central daylight time, a Cessna T206H, N52854, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Austin, Texas. The pilot was seriously injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 public flight.

It was reported that the accident flight was the first flight following maintenance. The pilot departed from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), and shortly after takeoff reported to air traffic control that he experienced smoke in the cockpit and a loss of engine power. Following the loss of engine power the pilot ditched the airplane into Lady Bird Lake, near Austin, Texas.

After the accident the airplane was recovered from the lake and retained for further examination.

    Pilot injured and in hospital, after mechanical issue during maintenance check flight.

    1. For a maintenance check flight, the track turned away from the runway heading mighty early, giving up over 7,000 feet of remaining pavement that would have been useful for landing on if power had been lost early on instead of later in the flight.

  3. It looks like he flew right over the person on the kayak or paddleboard that rescued him just before hitting the water.

    1. Sure did, and that person's effort was a big help to the pilot, as featured in this news article, along with info from investigators that he had smoke in the cockpit followed by engine failure. Pilot reportedly is just dealing with a cough after inhaling smoke but is OK otherwise:
