Destin Fire Rescue -

Ladder 9 with an unusual call for assistance.

A private plane at Destin Jet was unable to take off due to bird wire that was wrapped around the tail causing interference with flight.

Ladder 9’s crew was able to successfully remove the wire allowing for a safe take off.

Great job and outside thinking by the crew!

  1. What is 'bird wire' and how did it get there?

    1. I'm assuming that bird wire is the anti-bird wire spikes put up on buildings to keep birds off. And that if the plane was hangered, it could have fell or been knocked off the hanger and fell onto the plane when it was being taken out of the hanger.

  2. I see it! It's hanging from the tail in the second photograph. Good catch by the pilots!

  3. Wonder why the need for the super long extended ladder to remove it... did the Cessna also have covid?

    1. Either they were precluding hitting the tail while extending by parking far enough away that the fully extended ladder would not be able to contact the tail before hitting the full extension stops, or so that extension control was better rate-manageable with only the final section in motion.

Must not have had a Genie lift nearby.
