Ventura County Sheriff's Office
Frazier Park, California
Yesterday deputies from the Lockwood Station responded to a reported plane crash at Lockwood Valley Road and Adams Trail. This was a multi agency rescue with Ventura County Fire Department, the Kern County Fire Department , and the USFS United States Forest Service. The ranch owner who resides where the plane crashed was also a pilot and was able to assist in rendering the downed aircraft safe. Other ranchers assisted first responders in treating and evacuating the pilot from the crash site. The pilot was flown by Ventura County’s Copter 4 to the Henry Mayo Clinic where he was listed in serious but stable condition. Great teamwork between the first responders and the Lockwood Valley ranching community!
A pilot was flown by helicopter to a hospital after a small plane crashed in the remote Lockwood Valley Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
The single-engine plane was reported down shortly before 3:15 p.m. near the 31600 block of Adams Trail, according to the Ventura County Fire Department. The area is north of Lockwood Valley Road near the county's northeast corner, close to the boundary with Kern County and the Frazier Park community.
The male pilot was the plane's only occupant, said Ventura County Sheriff's Capt. Matthew Young. He suffered injuries that appeared serious, although Young said he was expected to survive.
Ventura County's Copter 4 flew the pilot to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital in Valencia, Young said.
County fire Capt. Brian McGrath said transport time can factor into whether a patient is flown for medical treatment rather than being taken by ground ambulance.
On Thursday, sheriff's officials said the pilot had left from Santa Rosa in Northern California and had been headed to the Santa Paula Airport, where he was going to meet family for Thanksgiving. He had apparently suffered a compound fracture and was slated for surgery. He is stable condition.
