Group 2 on duty

This evening we were notified by Shelburne Control Dispatch of a plane that had skidded off the runway at the Orange Municipal Airport.

All on duty and off duty were requested to the scene. Upon arrival of Eng 2 and Amb 1, a  4-Seater, Mooney plane which had been occupied x2 had skidded off the runway, and resting on the fuselage. Pilot and passenger had extricated the aircraft prior to  arrival and no injuries were reported, the pilot stated the landing gear did not lower, and a controlled landing “bellied in” w/out the landing gear was made.

Crews remained on scene for a few hours to stabilize the aircraft using cribbing and airbags and assist the tow company with removal of the aircraft. The aircraft landing gear was then manually lowered and towed off the runway.

Thank you to Shelburne Control for coordinating this low-frequency event, Orange Massachusetts Police Department Jumptown Skydiving who were among the first to respond and check on the occupants,  airport staff for their expertise , and CO&S Towing for their professional rigging and hoisting of the plane.
