WAUKON, Iowa (WKBT) — An Alaska man was injured after crashing a helicopter over a corn field Wednesday morning, according to authorities.

The Allamakee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at 8:07 a.m. Kurt M. Lepping, 66, of Wasilla, Alaska, had been operating the helicopter over a cornfield, applying chemicals, when he hit a power line and crashed into the field, located near the intersection of Elon Drive and Scenic Valley Road.

Lepping was taken by the Veterans Memorial Hospital Ambulance Service to the hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

The incident remains under investigation. The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board were notified of the incident.

The Waukon fire and police departments also assisted at the scene.

WAUKON, Iowa (KWWL)-- One man was released from the hospital after a helicopter crash east of Waukon on Wednesday.

Kurt Lepping was a operating helicopter over a cornfield spraying chemicals when the helicopter ran into an electrical line, prompting its crash in the field.

Lepping suffered non-life threatening injuries, and The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
