On June 14, 2021, about 0700 mountain daylight time, a Cessna T210L, N30286, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Buena Vista, Colorado. The pilot and 1 passenger were not injured. The airplane was being operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 flight.

According to the pilot, the airplane was operating normally on a local flight in mountainous terrain. He decided to make a fuel stop at the Leadville Municipal Airport (LVX), Leadville Colorado. During a visual approach (landing gear extended and 10-degrees flaps) to LVX, about 5-miles from the airport, the engine lost power. The pilot attempted a restart but was not successful. The pilot retracted the landing gear and set up for an emergency landing. Due to the mountainous terrain, there were limited options. The pilot chose a flat treeless area and extended the landing gear. The pilot landed the airplane in the field and both he and his passenger exited without injury. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the outboard section of the left wing during the landing. The landing area’s elevation was about 11,500 feet MSL.

The airplane was recovered to a secure facility for examination.
