  1. I'd suffer a heart problem too if I jumped out of a perfectly good airplane!

    2. Yeah I'll pass too. I value my life too much to take a risk like that. Never mind I'm actually afraid of falling. There is no such thing as a fear of heights. It's often a fear of falling (basophobia) that is often misinterpreted as a phobia of heights (acrophobia). The two are actually closely related. When I'm strapped in the cockpit safe and secure I look down all the time and do not get the heebie-jeebies. Put me on top of a 50 story building and tell me to look over a ledge and I get weak kneed. when I tell people I'm afraid of heights but am a pilot they don't understand it until I explain it to them this way.

    4. That's what I tell students that ask if it's dangerous.
Then I go fly the jump plane all day. 4067 hours and no accidents.
1188 skydives and 2 minor injuries.

  2. I read about this phenomonem years ago in Flying Magazine.

When you're in a building, in a tree, etc... your eye has a direct connection to the ground via the side of the building, you don't get that direct connection when flying so you don't get the heebie geebies.

    1. I'm nervous about heights but not altitude. It's has to do with being above the ground on something that is on the ground.
