JENKS, Oklahoma — Authorities stopped and arrested a pilot at R.L. Jones Airport in Jenks early Wednesday morning after finding more than 100 pounds of meth and multiple guns in a plane.

Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested 29-year-old Badlands McNally after authorities stopped to talk to him about the plane he was using.

According to an arrest report, deputies were called to the airport around midnight after Customs and Border Protection notified Homeland Security Investigations Tulsa Agents about the plane landing at the airport in Jenks around 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Agents conducted a certification inspection of the pilot and asked where he flew in from, according to the report.

Deputies say McNally told agents he flew in from Watonga and later admitted to carrying drugs in the plane.

“McNally said he was worried he may get his head chopped off,” a deputy wrote in the arrest report.

Deputies and the Tulsa police K9 unit were called to the airport and the plane was searched.

Agents found two large black duffel bags carrying a total of 101.7 pounds of methamphetamine, according to the arrest report.

Deputies say they also found two pistols and a rifle with multiple magazines behind the pilot seat.

Authorities arrested McNally who faces charges for aggravated trafficking of illegal drugs and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

  1. Nice plane will be up for seizure sale soon.

  2. I wonder if the authorities were in the control tower? Listening to the live ATC archives, about 3 minutes before landing, the tower asked if he was parking on the east or west side of the airport. Can't say I've ever been asked to say parking that far ahead of time. :)

KRVS-Mar-17-2021-0200Z.mp3 is the archive, starts at 24:52 into the recording.

    1. Agents apparently monitoring the flight track as he returned to his home base airport. Set things up to meet him on arrival. Phone call to tower is all that was required.

Airmen Registry shows BADLANDS JUSTICE MCNALLY got his airplane single engine land certificate 1/14/2021.

    2. The January 2021 date must have been a change of address re-issue, because the city data pilots list carries an entry for him showing a medical that "expires 2018".

Checking airmen registry again just now shows his information has been made blank, less than an hour after checking for the original post.

Didn't take FAA very long to revoke that certificate.

    3. Must have been a glitch - airmen registry is showing his info now.

    4. I've been asked 15 miles out. Usually when they are slow and going to offer a more convenient runway.

  3. Most likely someone ratted out Badlands McNally long before he took off.

  4. Creative way to fund your airplane purchase, though.

  5. That's actually enough meth to throw off the W&B!!!

  6. With a name like that, he was destined to be an outlaw.

    1. So true. About the only other thing he could have done was be a country musician. :-)

  7. My whole point is because criminals are generally dumb and make poor decisions... why this dude was even allowed a PPL? Was his CFI and School asleep at the yoke?
After all a knowledgeable pilot shall know about the penalties for transporting narcotics with knowledge, the TSA requirements for GA airports and that people will be watching his behavior.
The TSA caught him from a tip, most likely an FBO, or simply ATC following his radio silence across vast distances with no flight plan and his landing at a remote airport at night and not for any anticipated flight training.
And of all things he picked up a mode of transportation only accessible to 0.25% of the population. Might as well be towing a banner saying "I have drugs" with flashing lights.
And as cherry on top, flying cargo for compensation. So illegal charter will be also it. The FAA will probably levy a civil penalty on top of everything for that.

    1. It is unreasonable to suggest that a CFI working with a student in 2013 can anticipate what the pilot might do 7 years later and not "allow" him to become a pilot.

Don't let your imagination run wild next time based on seeing a recent certificate re-issue date. You have said you were working toward becoming a CFI yourself, so seeing recent re-issue dates in the airmen registry that are generated by change of address is something you should understand.

  8. Most likely an inside tip from another perp. The idea that Big Brother is watching every GA flight inside the country is silly. Having a name like "Badlands" certainly wouldn't help.

    1. Perp tipoff is most likely. And his parents may have intended the "Badlands Justice" first and middle to be a cool name for a career in law enforcement that just did not go the way they hoped.

Could get hired as a motivational speaker in the D.A.R.E. program when the legal issues sort out. Squint like Clint Eastwood, and say "Kids, my name is Badlands Justice and I'm here today to tell you my story..."

  9. Way to go, Einstein. Loose a good airplane, your ticket and your freedom all at once.

  10. Nope... his name comes from the movie "Desperado: Badlands Justice" from 1989.
Bet his dad or mom were a fan... Now some countries in Europe have actual LAWS to prevent kids from being named in an unorthodox way. For example in France a child was forbidden to be named "Peripherique" which was the name of the beltway that surrounds Paris.
Here in the US anything goes... including nazi symbols, teaching of creationistic or flat earth absurdities, etc...
There is Freedom but it doesn't mean Gross Stupidity.

  11. “McNally said he was worried he may get his head chopped off,”

^^That means Mexican drug cartels. They roll that way. But hey, let's just open our borders to the world, right Democrats?

  12. I call BS. Cartels use vans or cars and their own and would never rely on an expensive highly visible way like he did. Most likely associated with middle dealers and got paid the 7-8k per shipment per his interview. So illegal charter it is.

    1. Badlands knew to fear decap. Plenty of Oklahomies are stateside cartel people.
