Incidents occurred March 13, 2021 - Sacramento International Airport (KSMF), California

SACRAMENTO, California — Two planes experienced mid-flight emergencies and were forced to land at the Sacramento International Airport on Saturday afternoon, SMF officials said. Both emergencies took place between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.

One plane was traveling from Portland to LAX and quickly diverted to SMF due to a medical issue on board, forcing the aircraft to land in Sacramento, SMF officials said.

The plane landed safely and the condition of the individual who experienced the medical issue is still unknown. A short time later, the plane took off for LAX.

The second plane was a Horizon flight traveling from LAX to Reno that was diverted to Sacramento for an emergency landing due to a reported pressurization issue.

The plane landed safely, SMF officials said. No injuries were reported and all 78 passengers were given various options for further accommodation. As of 9:30 p.m. the plane is still grounded, SMF officials said.
