According to the Transportation Security Administration, employees collected $926,030.44 in unclaimed cash left behind by passengers at airport security checkpoints in fiscal year 2019.
The amount included nearly $19,000 in foreign currency, the TSA said.
In fiscal year 2018, TSA workers collected more than $960,000 in change.
The top five airports where passengers left the most money behind are:
John F. Kennedy International Airport: $98,110
San Francisco International Airport (SFO): $52,668.70
Miami International Airport (MIA): $47,694.03
McCarran International Airport (LAS): $44,401.76
Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW): $40,218.19
TSA workers at Palm Beach International Airport (PBI) found $3,077.50 in loose change.
Crews at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) discovered $17,738.50 in pocket change.
The TSA said the collected money goes into a special account to provide critical aviation security programs.

ReplyDeleteHey, change is bio-fouled anyway. The unspoken airport story is that people remove their shoes, walk the sweaty, soiled path that every person walks to go thru the metal detector, then put their now contaminated feet/socks back into the shoes they wear everyday.
ReplyDeleteEveryone should be discarding a pair of socks after the metal detector, having worn that pair solely for disposal. After that, time to think about bare handed contact with gas station nozzle handles, transferring yuk to your steering wheel.
