On November 3, 2018, about 1000 Pacific daylight time, an amateur built Audenried Kitfox S7 Super Sport airplane, N13NZ, impacted terrain while maneuvering over a dry lake bed near Flanigan, Nevada. The commercial pilot was seriously injured and the airplane sustained substantial damage. The airplane was registered to and operated by the pilot as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed at the time of the accident and no flight plan was filed. The local flight originated from the dry lake bed.

A witness reported that he and the pilot were flying their airplanes around the dry lake bed to show the differences in the airplanes for people below. The witness landed his airplane and observed the accident airplane fly over and make a sharp turn. The nose of the airplane dropped, and the airplane descended into the terrain below. He did not note any abnormal engine noises.

The airplane has been recovered to a secure location for further examination.

RENO, Nevada (KOLO)-- The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office says one person was hurt in the crash of a small plane about 40 miles north of Reno in the Fish Springs area.

The sheriff’s office reports the pilot on the the Kitfox S7 Super Sport survived the crash.with injuries. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District described the rescue as an extended extrication.

The pilot has been extricated and transported by Care Flight to Reno for treatment. No one else was on the aircraft.

It happened between the north end of Pyramid Lake and the California state line at about 9:55 a.m. November 3, 2018.

Deputies, search and rescue volunteers, REMSA and the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District responded.

Deputies and Search & Rescue volunteers from Washoe County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a small plane crash in the Fish Springs area Saturday morning.

Officials say the pilot of the Kitfox S7 Super Sport sustained injuries from the crash. There is no word yet on the extent of the pilot's injuries. CareFlight, with the help of Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and HASTY volunteers, successfully extricated the pilot Saturday afternoon, after first receiving the call around 10 a.m. Saturday morning.

The pilot was transported to the hospital by CareFlight.

Washoe Sheriff says the Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the crash.
