Updates planned for Richard B. Helgeson Airport (KTWM), Two Harbors, Lake County, Minnesota

The Richard B. Helgeson Municipal Airport in Two Harbors could be getting a few updates this year.

A new jet fuel system and pavement replacement are slated for this summer, according to a design proposal accepted by the City Council earlier in April.

A new 4,000-gallon fuel tank would join the existing 100LL and motor gas tanks, which will remain in place.

"Jet fuel service will allow expanded fueling service for based and transient aircraft, increasing fuel sales and potential users of the airport," according to the memorandum prepared by the engineering firm Short Elliott Hendrickson.

In addition to the new fuel option, a reconstruction and small extension of the pavement surrounding the hanger area is planned, too.

While the total project costs are estimated at $600,000, the Federal Aviation Administration and the Minnesota Department of Transportation are expected to cover 95 percent of the project in eligible areas. The local share is expected to be $80,000.
