Project Tracker: New hangar at Wilmington International Airport (KILM)

Project: Live Oak Bank airplane hangar at Wilmington International Airport.

History: Construction began in August and will continue until May. The hangar is to the north of the Air Wilmington operation and the main terminal. The project is the latest at the airport, which in 2016 set a record for the number of passengers using the facility.

What's next: The facility will feature 20,000 square feet of hangar space for aircraft. The bank leases the land from Wilmington International Airport, but will own and operate the hangar, said Whitney Prease, ILM's facilities director.

The frame of the hangar has been erected. Once completed, the hangar -- which will also have about 4,000 square feet of office space -- will be the second-largest at the airport.

"It's a huge project," Prease said.

The Air Wilmington hangar, which in November hosted a large rally for eventual President-elect Donald Trump, has the airport's largest space for storing aircraft at 21,000 square feet.
