Accident occurred May 06, 2016 in Fordsville, Ohio County, Kentucky

FORDSVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say an ultralight aircraft crashed in an open field on Friday in the Fordsville community of Ohio County, injuring the pilot.

The preliminary investigation says 41-year old Brian Tierney, of Reynolds Station, was operating his aircraft when, for an unknown reason, lost control and crashed in a field.

State Police say Tierney was temporarily trapped in the craft, but was freed from the wreckage a short time later.

Troopers closed KY 54 so a medical helicopter could land on the highway to airlift Tierney to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Indiana.

State Police say it’s believed that Tierney broke both his legs and possibly had body lacerations. He was listed in stable condition, according to KSP.

No one else was injured and no other property damage was reported, according to State Police.
