Fatal accident occurred February 13, 2016 in Lodi, San Joaquin County, California



SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Friends and family are mourning a Concord man who died in a tragic skydiving accident near the Lodi Aiport.

According to San Joaquin Sheriff’s Deputies Ramiro Ramirez Sainz crashed into a wall after his parachute failed to deploy.

A Facebook page has been set up in his memory.

The page was created with a note:

“This page is for the family. It is to capture the memories, photos and stories of Ramiro… Ramiro crossed to the other side Saturday 13, 2016 after a skydiving accident. An investigation continues to the actual cause. What we do know is no parachute was deployed and Ramiro did not survive. Ramiro is survived by hi [sic] beautiful family.”

Sainz’s own Facebook page has many videos and photos from previous jumps. Many of his Facebook friends have changed their profile pictures to a black ribbon in his honor.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident.

LODI, Calif. (KCRA) —A skydiver has died at a Lodi airport Saturday morning, the San Joaquin Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies responded to the scene around 11:48 a.m. at the parachute jump center at Lodi Airport.

San Joqauin County Sheriff's Office Lt. Steve Pease said it could be a malfunctioning parachute, but deputies do not know if it was a problem with the equipment of the operator.

Pease said the person hit a cinder block that wraps around a neighborhood and fell into a drainage ditch.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been brought in to investigate the accident, Pease added.

No information about the skydiver has been released.

LODI (CBS13/AP) – Authorities say a skydiver has died after crashing against a wall next a road near the Lodi Airport.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the scene at the parachute jump center at Lodi Airport Saturday.

Deputies do not know if the accident was caused by a malfunctioning parachute or the operator. They say the person hit a cinder block that wraps around a neighborhood and fell into a drainage ditch.

The FAA has been brought in to investigate.

No information about the skydiver has been released.
