NTSB investigators used data provided by various entities, including, but not limited to, the Federal Aviation Administration and/or the operator and did not travel in support of this investigation to prepare this aircraft accident report.

According to the pilot, during approach, the airplane encountered a wind gust and the landing gear struck the top of the airport's perimeter fence. The airplane flipped over and slid to a stop. According to the airport facility directory the fence was in excess of 200 feet from the approach end of the runway which was 3,237 feet in length. The airplane sustained substantial damage to both wings, the rudder and the vertical stabilizer. 

The pilot reported that there were no mechanical failures or anomalies with the airplane prior to or during the flight that would have prevented normal flight operation.

There weren't any wind reporting facilities at the airport.

The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident as follows:
The pilot's failure to maintain an approach angle of descent to avoid obstacles, resulting in the airplane striking the airport perimeter fence.





Two Del Norte County residents escaped major injuries this morning after their Cessna plane crash landed at the Gold Beach Airport.

Pilot Daniel R. Harrison, 76, of Fort Dick,was approaching the runway from the north at 10:25 a.m. when one of the plane’s tires clipped the 5-foot-tall perimeter fence, causing the plane to flip upside down and land on the cockpit roof, according to Gold Beach Police Chief Dixon Andrews.

Gold Fire firefighters and authorities responded to the accident and found that Harrison and his passenger, Anthony Bettencourt, 51, of Crescent City, had exited the plane. Harrison, who had some scrapes and bruises, declined treatment. Bettencourt was not injured.

There was no reports of leaking fuel or damage to the runway.

Andrews said the pair, flying in a 1960 175A Cessna, originally took off from Crescent City earlier in the day.

Gold Beach, Ore. – A small single-engine plane flipped onto it’s back at Gold Beach’s airport late this morning.

James Clemens, Port of Gold Beach and Airport Manager, says that shortly after landing around 11:00 Monday morning, a Cessna 175 hit a perimeter fence and the landing gear got stuck, flipping the plane over.

Two Crescent City men were in the plane at the time, they suffered only minor bumps and bruises.

GOLD BEACH, Ore.-- A Cessna crashed at the Gold Beach Airport Monday morning but no injuries were reported, according to officials.

A witness says the plane slide about 50 feet, flipping it upside down after it came in to land too low.

Two people were on the plane, but officials say they walked away from the crash.

The airport was closed for 20 minutes following the crash.
