Yulista Aviation plans to open its doors Tuesday to a airplane hangar in Macon.
The 21,000-square-foot hangar at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport will offer hangar and office space to support aviation programs, according to a news release from the company.
Yulista, which has offices in Byron and Warner Robins, provides aviation prototyping, engineering and manufacturing support, and currently has more than 40 employees.
"Yulista Aviation has been supporting the Warner Robins Air Force community since 2011," President Darrell Harrison said in a statement. "This new hangar will provide Yulista the capability to meet a broader range of customer requirements and satisfy national security needs. This new facility will increase the opportunities to grow the Macon and Warner Robins workforce."
In addition to the U.S. Air Force, the new hangar will support other Department of Defense services and federal government agencies, the release said. Yulista will be supporting a broad range of rotary-wing and fixed-wing aircraft.
The Macon-Bibb Industrial Authority has invested "over $1 million" in a partnership with Yulista by leasing the hangar, according to a news release Monday from the authority.
During last month's authority meeting, members agreed to buy about 8 acres from Lowe Aviation and others, and to acquire the leasehold interests of a large airplane hangar and some smaller temporary hangars for a total of $900,000.
The partnership with Yulista "positions Macon-Bibb (County) for exceptional economic growth and job creation in the aviation/aerospace industry," the release said.
Authority Chairman Cliffard Whitby said in the statement that Yulista working with the authority to repurpose an existing hangar at the airport "exemplifies how communities and companies can creatively collaborate, irrespective of lines on a map, to the benefit of everyone."
Yulista Aviation Inc. is one of seven subsidiaries of Yulista Holding, and the parent company is Calista Corp., a native-owned regional corporation formed under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971.
