The Reno Air Racing Association has appointed Terry Matter director of operations for the National Championship Air Races

Terry Matter

Terry Matter will oversee all aircraft operations of the event and be the principal Reno Air Racing Association person responsible for carrying out the terms of the Federal Aviation Administration waiver approved for the National Championship Air Races.

Matter served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft maintenance officer and field maintenance squadron commander responsible for the extended/heavy aircraft maintenance requirements supporting more than 250 T-37 and T-38 aircraft assigned to the air base.

Upon finishing his USAF service, Matter joined the Northrop (later Northrop Grumman) Corp. in Southern California, where he worked for 30 years progressing from aircraft service engineer resolving aircraft technical discrepancies to his final position as department executive manager of Aircraft Product Support Business Development.

Terry Matter succeeds Bill Eck, who announced his retirement after this year’s event.

Eck had been director of operations for more than 20 years and was involved with the National Championship Air Races since the early 1980s, serving as board chairman in 2000-01.

For 10 years, Matter worked under Eck in operations, most recently as head of Operations South for the past four years.
