Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor said the plane was located safely in Watsonville, Calif. about 50 miles south of San Jose.
10:12 a.m. Friday update:
The Nevada Highway Patrol is searching for a plane near Tonopah after air traffic controllers lost contact with the transponder Friday.
Trooper Duncan Dauber said the Air Force contacted NHP around 9:45 a.m. Friday to inform the department they had lost contact with the plane's transponder near Tonopah, the seat of Nye County around three-and-a-half hours southeast of Reno. The aircraft is described as a small passenger plane, possibly private.
Dauber said a crash has not been confirmed. He said he had no further details.
