A pilot in his twenties is in hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by the propeller of a small airplane at Quebec City's Jean-Lesage Airport.
The accident happened at around 2:45 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of the Orizon Aviation Québec school, said the airport's spokesman Mathieu Claise.
The young pilot, who already had a private pilot license and had logged more than 150 hours of training, was a passenger of the small Cessna.
The man left the plane after it stopped on the runway and walked too close to the propeller, which hit him on the head. He was transported to Enfant-Jésus Hospital.
Claise could not explain why the pilot walked in front of the plane, only saying the man had enough experience to know the appropriate security measures.
"When you use this type of aircraft, it is evident that you must wait until the propeller is at a complete stop before you disembark," he said.
"No matter what, you always walk behind the plane and never walk in front."
Aviation officials, including the Transportation Safety Board, are investigating the accident.
