Cessna 210: Incident occurred September 20, 2014 at Eros Airport, Namibia

The Ministry of Works and Transport will probe an incident in which a privately owned aircraft overran the runway strip at the Eros Airport, damaging a fence.

The investigation was confirmed by Namibia Airports Company (NAC) spokesperson Dan Kamati.

Kamati said at this stage, the name of the owner of the plane is being withheld, pending the investigation.

The investigation will be done by the Ministry of Works and Transport’s Directorate of Civil Aviation.

Speaking to Namibian Sun yesterday, Kamati said on Saturday afternoon a private Cessna 210 was being flown for testing.

While the pilot was trying to land, the plane overran the runway and ploughed through a fence.

No one was injured in the incident, and only the fence was damaged.

“The incident happened during lunch time on Saturday. It is an unfortunate incident, but will be investigated,” Kamati said.

Kamati also confirmed there were no passengers in the plane.

The Cessna 210 Centurion is built by the Cessna Aircraft Company and is a single engine, general aviation aircraft with retractable gear, first flown in 1957 and produced until 1985.

The plane offers space for six passengers. It has three models – a normally aspirated one, the turbocharged T210 and the pressurized version P210N, also known as Silver Eagle.
