The pilot of a small airplane with a failing engine managed to land Monday afternoon in the Olinda Landfill in Brea, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The two people on board the Beechcraft Bonanza were not hurt, FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said.
The plane was flying from Fullerton to Chino when its engine failed, Gregor said. It landed around 12:50 p.m. in the landfill, about eight miles east of Fullerton’s municipal airport.
The FAA will investigate, Gregor said.
The plane was manufactured in 1975 and is registered to an owner in El Cajon, according to FAA records.
