Annual aviation event flies forward despite rain: Wittman Regional Airport (KOSH), Oshkosh, Wisconsin

OSHKOSH – Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh hosted its annual fly-in drive-in pancake breakfast Saturday, despite rainy weather.

The event celebrates Sylvester “Steve” Wittman’s birthday.

Wittman was a famed aircraft designer and builder.

Children and families had the chance to learn more about his aircraft and, as with any pancake breakfast, enjoy plenty of hot food.

The event is geared toward introducing children to the world of aviation.

“It all stems from that first exciting trip up in the air, and then a lot of kids become pilots themselves,” said Alan Follendor, Chairman of EAA Chapter 252.

Children at the weekend event were also given the chance to go up in the air with a pilot, as part of the young eagles program.

However, some kids had to be turned away because of the rain.
