Hang glider crash: Isle of Wight

A hang glider has crashed on the Isle of Wight this afternoon (Wednesday).

It happened at around 1.30pm, when the Coastguard helicopter was sent to the scene as well as an Isle of Wight cliff rescue team. They were both still on site at 2.15pm

A witness described seeing the female hang glider pilot circling near cliffs, between Blackgang and Chale, before dropping out of the sky, possibly over the cliff edge.

Residents told the County Press the woman lives in the village and is an experienced hang glider.

Unconfirmed reports suggest she was around 75m down the cliff.

It understood the helicopter was in the process of winching her up the cliff at around 2:35pm.
