Plane from Edinburgh in emergency landing after technical fault

A plane from Edinburgh Airport had to make an emergency landing after it started to lose hydraulic fluid.

The 5.45am FlyBe flight to Brussels was diverted to Birmingham when the technical fault was discovered on Monday.

Fire engines were waiting for the plane when it landed at the English airport.

The aircraft involved was a Bombardier Dash 8 twin turboprop passenger plane.

The 67 passengers were put on another aircraft and arrived in Brussels two hours and 25 minutes late.

A spokesman for FlyBe said: "Flybe can confirm that the captain of Flight SN2066 from Edinburgh to Brussels this morning elected to divert to Birmingham Airport following a minor technical fault with the aircraft.

"As is normal and as precautionary measure, the airport placed its emergency vehicles on standby.

"The aircraft, operated on behalf of Brussels Airlines by Flybe, landed without incident and the 67 passengers disembarked safely after it had taxied to stand.

"Flybe apologises for any inconvenience experienced but the safety of its passengers and crew is the airline’s number one priority."
