The blue and white rotating beacon light at Jamestown Regional Airport will likely be replaced this spring, the Jamestown Regional Airport Authority decided Wednesday.
The beacon replacement comes along with two other equipment-related projects at the airport, said Steve Aldinger, project manager with Interstate Engineering.
One involves fixing the access gates to the airport. The other is the replacement of precision approach path indicators along the airport’s runways that tell an aircraft whether it is on the correct flight path.
The cost of the projects will be approximately $124,000, which will be paid for with $200,000 from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Another project planned for the future at the airport is the addition of more hangars on airport grounds, something that has been on the JRAA’s strategic planning objectives list for a few years.
To gauge public interest in purchasing, renting or even building new hangars, the Airport Authority will host a meeting open to the public from 6 to 7 p.m. on April 10, at the airport.
Aldinger will work on some preliminary drawings of possible hangar configurations to be shown to prospective tenants, purchasers or developers that evening.
Jeff Wilhelm, a member of the Airport Authority, emphasized the importance of inviting all general aviators to attend the meeting, so that they can give input about what they want and need in a hangar — whether it should be heated or lighted, how much space it should include and what the rent range should be.
“It’s my feeling we’re at the time we need to do something about it,” Wilhelm said.
