CRAFTY college students have created a unique piece of artwork for the Hawker Beechcraft factory at Hawarden Airport.
The
nine fabrication and welding students from Deeside College designed the
sculpture in the shape of a jet engine – spending a combined 80 hours
to finish their handcrafted masterpiece.
Aircraft manufacturer
Hawker Beechcraft commissioned the sculpture – which includes its logo
and Deeside College’s – to greet visitors to its customer service centre
at the airfield.
Vice-president Clive Prentice said: “We have a
long-standing connection with Deeside College, having taken on many of
its students as apprentices, and are always impressed by their level of
skill and dedication.
“The quality of craftsmanship that has gone
into this sculpture epitomizes this, and we are very proud to be able to
showcase the next generation of local engineering talent.
“It looks absolutely stunning and we are sure it will prove to be a great talking point among customers.”
Deeside College lecturer Tony Commins added: “This was a fantastic project for our students to work on.
“Having
a real brief which required them to think creatively as well as
technically was a challenge, and allowed them to develop skills. We have
extremely good links with Hawker Beechcraft and are thankful for this
opportunity.”
