Two men were Thursday arraigned in connection with the discovery of cocaine in a Delta Airlines bag earlier this week.
Jointly charged with being in possession of 1.856 kilogrammes of cocaine are Roraima Airways Aviation Security Agent, Sydney Matthews and Water Chris catering services driver, Mark Fredericks.
Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded the duo to prison until October 7 when they will appear at the Providence Magistrates’ Court.
Matthews is represented by Attorney-at-Law, Glenn Hanoman and Fredericks by Attorney-at-Law, Roger Yearwood.
Police Prosecutor Sergeant Mansfield told the court that around 5:30 AM on September 3, Fredericks left in a bus with meals for a Delta Airlines flight. Matthews, according to the prosecutor, was seen with a Delta Airlines bag that he subsequently threw on a forklift.
A female airport security spotted the bag, pulled it off and searched it. Moments before, the prosecutor related, Fredericks went to the forklift here the security guard made a desperate attempt to retrieve it. The prosecutor said it appeared as though Fredericks allegedly attempted to prevent the guard from searching the bag.
Yearwood said he did not know how the prosecution would prove that Frederick was in possession of the bag.
