Suspended air traffic controller led planes too close

An air traffic controller reportedly tried to help planes avert stormy clouds, but instead brought them too close together, leading to his suspension.

Without giving the name of the employee at Air Traffic Control Services in Ho Chi Minh City, officials said they revoked the controller’s license for three months.

During a midnight shift June 10, the staffer reportedly let aircraft from Singapore Airlines and Indonesia Airlines fly too close to each other and violate minimum safe separation distance.

Also in June, another air traffic controller in the city had his license suspended for the same violation and had to pay VND7 million (US$350) for attacking his chief.
