U.S. family kicked off plane over child's tantrum

A US family missed their holiday after being kicked off an Air Alaska flight when their three-year-old son threw a tantrum.

Mark Yanchak was flying to St Martin's Island with his wife, mother-in-law and two sons, aged one and three, when his older son became cranky as the plane was leaving Seattle airport on Saturday, NY Daily News reports.

Mr Yanchak, from Washington State, said his son started crying because he did not want to be buckled into his seat, but calmed down after his mother came to settle him.

He said the plane had already taxied for take-off when the pilot suddenly turned it around and a crew member came and asked him and his son to get off.

"They said it was the captain's orders," he said.

Mr Yanchak said the airline offered to rebook the family's flight but they were so shaken up they decided to skip their vacation.

Alaska Airlines Managing Director of Strategic and Corporate Communications Paul McElroy said the airline had been concerned for the child's safety because he refused to sit properly in his seat.

"The fact that the child repeatedly laid across the seat with the seat belt at his throat was particularly concerning to our crew," he said.
