Cessna 172: Pilot Injured In Crash. John Otto Taken To Hospital With Head Injury. Smoketown Airport (S37), Pennsylvania


LANCASTER COUNTY, Pa. -- A plane crashed at Smoketown Airport in East Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, on Friday afternoon.  About 3:45 p.m., a Cessna 172 crashed in a field on the north side of the runway.  The pilot, John Otto, of Lancaster, was the only person aboard. He was taken to the hospital with a head injury.  The plane, which is destroyed, is based at the airport.  Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration are headed to the scene.


EAST LAMPETER TOWNSHIP, LANCASTER COUNTY— One person was injured in the crash of a small plane in Lancaster County. It happened at around 3:45 Friday afternoon at Smoketown airport, along Route 340, the Old Philadelphia Pike, in East Lampeter Township. The aircraft went down as the pilot was attempting to land. The nose of the aircraft dug into the ground. No word on the identity of the injured pilot. He reportedly suffered facial injuries. Agents from the Federal Aviation Administration are expected to investigate the cause of mishap.
