An investigation is underway to find out what caused a small plane to crash near the Le Mars Airport Saturday.
The name of the pilot, who was injured, has not been released because family members had not been notified of the accident.
The pilot was out of the plane when emergency crews responded to the report of the crash at 7:02 p.m.
The pilot was treated by Le Mars Ambulance and transported to Floyd Valley Hospital for unknown injuries, according to Le Mars Fire-Rescue Chief David Schipper.
There was only one person in the single-engine, two seat experimental plane which was found in a corn field approximately one-fourth of a mile west of the runway.
The plane had just taken off from the airport when it encountered some type of problem and the pilot tried to return to the airport, but crashed in the cornfield, according to written information released about the accident.
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) staff is expected to be in Le Mars Monday.
Firefighters stopped fuel leaking from the plane.
Le Mars Fire-Rescue, Le Mars Ambulance, Le Mars Police and the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office also responded to the airplane crash.
