REDjet cancels flights to three Caribbean destinations

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) — Problems with the hydraulic system has forced the Caribbean's first low-budget carrier, REDjet, to cancel flights between three Caribbean destinations.

The Barbados-based carrier said that until further notice, its flights to and from Guyana, Trinidad and Barbados has been cancelled.

"In the interest of passenger and cabin crew safety we have decided to cancel our service for now but are optimistic that our engineers, who have been working around the clock, will ensure that we are up and running as soon as possible," said the airline's chief operating officer, Kevin Dudley.

He said said the aircraft was experiencing problems with its hydraulic system and they were working with manufacturer Boeing to have the problem rectified in the shortest possible time.

At least 132 passengers were affected by the cancellations on Wednesday and a further 488 yesterday.

The airline said it was refunding affected passengers even though some preferred to remain on standby with the airline until the resumption of the service.
