A single-engine plane completed an incredibly successful emergency landing in California on Sunday.

The incident occurred on August 8th over the Port of Los Angeles, California.

The Cessna 172N Skyhawk was flying “extremely low” while approaching Terminal Island, drawing the attention of Los Angeles Port Police officers.

The officers lost sight of the plane but eventually tracked it to an abandoned industrial site just south of Ocean Boulevard east of the Vincent Thomas Bridge, where it had successfully completed an emergency landing on the patch of dirt.

Officers arrived to discover two men walking away from the crash. The two declined medical assistance.

“They had apparently just been conducting some training maneuvers in this area and they lost the engine, so they did an emergency landing,” Port of Los Angeles spokesman Phillip Sanfield said.

“They were quite fortunate that they were able to walk away; the plane appeared to be intact with no significant damage to it.”

“These guys got pretty lucky they were able to land,” Sanfield said.

The plane remained in the empty lot until it was towed away on Monday morning.
