On January 26, 2021, about 1525 central standard time, a Zenair Zodiac 601 HDS airplane, N444PZ, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Waller, Texas. The pilot was seriously injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.

The pilot reported that the engine lost power shortly after takeoff. He recalled the preflight run-up and takeoff were normal. However, about 150 to 200 ft above ground level, the pilot recalled two “pops” and the engine lost power. He executed a forced landing to an open field.

The airplane sustained damage to both wings and the fuselage. A postaccident engine examination is planned.

WALLER, Texas (KTRK) -- A pilot has been injured after a plane went down in Waller County Tuesday afternoon.

DPS officials confirmed they were notified at about 4:10 p.m. that the plane went down near Plain View Drive.

The pilot was airlifted to a hospital in unknown condition. The pilot was the sole occupant on the aircraft.

No other injuries have been reported. There's no word yet on what caused the plane to go down.

FAA officials are expected to launch an investigation.
