Wolf Creek Firefighters responded Sunday morning to a plane crash in a harvested bean field off of Hildebrecht Road, southwest of Farmington.

According to Wolf Creek Fire Department Chief Bart Mabry, the Texas family in the small plane was enroute back to the Dallas area after visiting family in West Lafayette, Indiana, and Purdue University. The engine failed and an "unscheduled landing" was made.

The mom, dad and daughter were all uninjured, Mabry said, and appeared to be in good spirits.

"As bad as it sounds, it was comparatively uneventful," Mabry said.

  1. Hildebrecht Road is just two miles from Farmington Regional Airport, almost made the airfield. FlightAware track shows turns west of Farmington as if some other airfield was being considered initially, perhaps Washington County (K8WC).

Good to see a safe outcome.

  2. I like the smiles of the family! They knew they were in trouble, and good job on Dad getting them down! I can't imagine a better outcome and better soft place to land than leftover stems from a harvested bean field laid down like straw. No visible wing damage or fuselage skin wrinkling. If all structural checks out, this bird will be repaired and back in the air. Gotta love flying in the Midwest: plenty of farmland options to put down.
